Hora Hora Primary School
Hora Hora Primary School was experiencing significant roll growth, this required an immediate temporary solution in limited space with difficult access. In order to build the new block many buildings needed to be removed first, including some with asbestos contamination. Not only that further temporary arrangements were needed to house those students until the new build was complete. In total seven temporary classrooms were mobilised. To get some of them in and provide access to the new build platform an access road across a public reserve was required to be installed. Once temporary arrangements were in place the build commenced, a key element of the design was natural ventilation and durable materials that were in keeping with the heritage look of the school along with the inclusion of a symbol of Ngapuhi acknowledging the Iwi. Each classroom has access to a breakout space and teachers’ office. Within the breakout space is a small kitchen for food preparation and an art station. This was one of the MOE’s first major capital developments in Northland and set the benchmark for many that have followed.
